Study Abroad Document Checklist

Everything you will typically need to apply to a university abroad – in one printable list.

Every university and country is slightly different, but most applications from Nigeria need the documents below. Start gathering them early – some take weeks to obtain.

Identity

  • International passport valid for the length of your course
  • Birth certificate or declaration of age
  • Recent passport photographs

Academic

  • WASSCE / NECO result and scratch card for verification
  • IGCSE, A-Level or IB certificates (if applicable)
  • Transcripts and certificates from any previous university study
  • Academic reference letter(s)

Application

  • Personal statement or statement of purpose
  • CV (mainly for postgraduate applicants)
  • English test result – IELTS, TOEFL, Duolingo or a WAEC English waiver where accepted

Visa & finance (after your offer)

  • Offer letter and CAS / I-20 / letter of acceptance
  • Bank statements and sponsor’s letter
  • Tuberculosis test certificate where required
  • Tuition deposit receipt
